Why there is no single price list
Signage is manufacturing, not a catalogue product. Two signs of identical dimensions can differ in price several times over depending on materials, illumination, mounting height and whether artwork exists. Any supplier who quotes a firm price before understanding those variables is guessing.
The most useful thing you can do as a buyer is understand the cost drivers, so you can make trade-offs deliberately instead of simply asking for the cheapest option.
The seven factors that move the price
Almost every signage quote in Zimbabwe comes down to the same variables.
- Size: material and labour scale with area, and past a point you also need heavier framing.
- Materials: printed vinyl on a board sits at one end; fabricated aluminium or stainless letters sit at the other.
- Illumination: LEDs, drivers, wiring and a serviceable build add cost but extend trading visibility.
- Complexity: individually cut letters, multiple layers and custom shapes take far more workshop time than a single printed panel.
- Installation: ground-level mounting is straightforward; height work, structural fixings and after-hours installation are not.
- Location: out-of-town installation carries travel and time.
- Artwork: print-ready vector files cost nothing extra; a logo that must be redrawn does.
Where cutting cost is sensible — and where it is not
Sensible savings: simplifying the design, reducing the number of separately fabricated elements, using a printed panel instead of individually cut letters, or phasing a project so the highest-impact sign goes up first.
False savings: unlaminated print outdoors, thin substrates that warp, undersized fixings, and skipping a site survey. These reduce the invoice and then fail within a season, which costs more than doing it once properly.
How to get an accurate quote quickly
Give the supplier the frontage or wall measurements, a photograph of the mounting surface, the distance the sign must be read from, whether illumination is needed, your deadline, and your logo in vector format if you have it. With those six things, a quote can be accurate rather than provisional.
