Two terms that get mixed up
"Vehicle branding" is the broad term for any graphics applied to a vehicle — from a logo and phone number on the doors to complete colour change. "Wrapping" is one specific method: covering large panels, or the whole vehicle, in printed or coloured vinyl film.
Most businesses don't need to choose between them in principle. The real decision is how much of the vehicle to cover and what the graphics must achieve.
The main options
Each level suits a different budget and objective:
- Cut vinyl lettering — logo, services and contact details. Lowest cost, fast to apply, easy to update.
- Part-wrap — printed graphics across selected panels such as the sides and rear, blended into the original paint colour.
- Full wrap — printed or colour-change film over all painted panels for maximum impact.
- Magnetic signs — removable panels for vehicles also used privately (flat steel panels only).
What drives the price
Rather than quote figures that change with exchange rates and material supply, it is more useful to know what moves a price up or down:
- Vehicle size and body shape — deep recesses and curves take more film and labour.
- Coverage — lettering uses a fraction of the material of a full wrap.
- Film grade — cast films conform to curves and last longer; calendered films suit flat surfaces and shorter terms.
- Lamination — protects printed graphics from UV and abrasion.
- Number of vehicles — fleets benefit from repeated artwork and batched production.
Durability and paintwork
Quality film applied to sound factory paint generally protects the surface underneath and can be removed later. Resprayed or damaged paint carries a risk of lifting when film is removed, so we inspect the vehicle before advising.
Parking in direct sun every day shortens the life of any vinyl. Tell us how the vehicle is used and we will specify accordingly.
How to choose
If your aim is identification and contact details, lettering usually does the job. If the vehicle is your main advertising in busy areas such as the Bulawayo CBD, a part- or full wrap earns more attention. For leased vehicles, choose removable films and confirm the lease terms first.
